Like I said, I have a copy of Emachines Windows XP Media Center edition, Would it work with my computer, I don't have the emachines anymore, I have a custom built PC, I'm wondering if it would work, Don't tell me to get Vista or 7. Vista is trash and I can't get 7 right now.

Answer
I can only say try it and see. Actually if you know what the components on your computer are, you can check with what drivers emachines supports, and try downloading drivers from the web.

Of course that sort of research is what you should be doing anyhow, but try it and see. Frankly I still think XP is the best Windows.

Linux media center distros?

william s

I'm looking for a linux disto designed primarily for media center duties. I've tried Mythbuntu and it seems nice, but hangs on boot trying to load my wireless card (RTL8185 chipset). Geexbox seems nice, but doesn't have many features. I tired linuxMCE, but it hasn't been updated in quite a while, the documentation still speaks of Ubuntu 7.04. Anyone know of alternatives to those two?

Answer
Why don't you keep your favorite distro and run XBMC Media Center instead? This is a powerful and magnificent media center yet free and open source. It runs on all system: Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. It has won so many community awards for its quality. And previously, this was an xbox apps. Due to its popularity, it was brought to other system.
You can download it directly at http://xbmc.org/download/
There is also a nice article about it at http://software-adviser.synthasite.com/enriching-your-multimedia-experience-with-xbmc.php
