Is there a way to use Linux (Ubuntu or CentOS) computer's WIFI adapter as an Access Point?

I need the wifi adapter to work as an Infrastructure access point. But it seems ubuntu only supports Ad-Hoc "hot spot", which many smartphones do not support.


Answer
Linux can make a computers wifi card act as a hotspot, but only if the wifi card supports it. Not all cards can be made to act as a hotspot sadly (some atheros and prism cards do)... Further more different wifi cards require slightly different settings...
