linux media center image
Q. Basicly, I am setting up a new entertainment center, and I want to be able to do the whole DVR thing. Opinions are good, but I am really after experiences here.
Answer
My favorite is TiVo because 1) I don't have to build it myself and 2) it has linux inside and 3) it's still less expensive than the "Free" linux systems that you build yourself. And this is personal experience.
That said, there are two popular systems out their for DIY Linux media centers:
Freevo
http://freevo.sourceforge.net
http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=slv1-&p=Freevo
MythTV
http://www.mythtv.org/
http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=slv1-&p=MythTV
I stumbled upon an article which covered just how difficult it was to actually go through all of the work to build a DVR based on Linux.
However, they pointed to Gentoo.org has having a prepackaged distribution of the software which makes it much easier than using the project sites above.
The Freevo package of Gentoo Linux is:

How can i install a dual boot with Windows XP Media Center and Ubuntu Linux?
KAOBEAR
I want to be able to only boot into one or the other, but to be able to use my wireless connection on either and to access files from either operating system from the other.
Is this possible? and how?
Answer
You can first install the Windows XP Media Center edition and then the Ubuntu in 'expert' mode (Which gives you options to choose the loader...etc at the end of installation).
Coming to accessing the Windows partition from Ubuntu u can always use 'mount' to mount the NTFS or FAT partition.
If you want to access UNIX stuff from Windows you need to use a filesyustem driver like 'EXT2 IFS'.
You can download here...http://www.fs-driver.org/download.html

can xbox live work with linux instead of windows media center?
slayer
Answer
if you mean sharing music and videos, yes you can by setting up the linux box with samba file sharing, and the xbox should see it. it might work, it might not. there are several other solutions, just search "share files from linux to xbox 360 and you should come up with several ways.
