Would running Ubuntu Linux work while hosting a Minecraft server?

Hi, I'm looking to install Linux on my 3-4 year-old Windows Vista computer. I'm currently trying to run a Craftbukkit minecraft server, and I'm wondering if it will work properly, or if there are any known glitches. I'd also like to have a link to a step-by-step guide (videos of possible, please...) on how to boot a computer from a flash drive if that's possible, but if not, don't worry. Thanks. :)

And trust me when I say u don't wanna install it using GUI (Graphic User Interface),which is like windows files and explorers and stuff.

I am moving a server from windows to linux and I ran it with this( java -Xms1024M -Xmx1024M -jar craftbukkit.jar nogui) in terminal. Everthing worked out good, but none of my freinds could connect. i went into server properties and put the ip of the computer i was using in, and i checked everything, and it still didnt work. On my old computer i set up the port forwarding on the internet for my 2wire router, and it worked perfectly on my old windows computer. Any help would be needed, would greatly appreciate instuctions, becuse Im Not that good with Linux. Thanks In Advance!

This may or may not work, you need to edit your port forwarding settings by going to your routers page and editing the ip to the ip of your new computer (i dont know how to find out your ip on linux sorry)
