My friend was telling about this thing called a "Linux Proxy Server", i just wanted to know what it is and also if you can run a 24/7 Minecraft Server?

Answer
A proxy server is a piece of software (or a machine running such software) that makes network requests on behalf of clients, possibly doing something to them along the way.

For instance, when I'm developing a website, I sometimes run a proxy server that accepts requests for webpages and then fetches the webpage from the normal server ⦠unless it is for the site I'm developing in which case it goes to the private development server instead. Other proxies might filter out adverts, or pornography, or keep a record of all the traffic, etc.

Linux is an operating system (like Windows or OS X) that is commonly used to run servers. A Linux proxy server is just a proxy server with a Linux operating system.

There is nothing stopping people from running minecraft servers all the time (other then the possibility of them crashing, needing to reboot, or suffering power failures).
