When creating Android OS for phones, how much of the Linux OS did they have to change? on the cyanogenmod 10 1 is based on android 4 2

Silvercat

1. Did they change the Linux Kernel?
2.Only the Linux kernel?
3.Did they have to change whatever needed to be changed, for every phone separately?
thanks

Answer
The operating system is the files that connect with the Kernel. The Kernel is nothing without the files except a file. So basically it is the files that they alter and modify to make the operating system. They may make some minor changes to the Kernel to make it function and operated based on the phones hardware.

Linux is two words put together in order to name the Kernel after the creator. Lin ux (Linus Torvalds ) Lin after Linus and ux after Unix.

Can I install Linux or Android on iPod touch with a broken display?

Can I install Linux or Android on iPod touch with a broken display? I have 2nd generation iPod touch that has broken display and digitizer, so not worth fixing, but as it still operates in this "blind" mode I wanted to install Linux or Android on it so I could still use it as audio player (accessing it only with remote terminal or buttons) and as "smart" USB drive...

Answer
you don't need to install into your ipod to get terminal access to it.

You do need to be able to jailbreak it though, and install software on it
http://www.digidna.net/products/diskaid suggests you may ba able to do it without jailbreak

Installing Linux also requires a jailbreak
Jailbreaking is tricky without a display.
